Frequently Asked Questions

What is Home Care?

Home care is generally defined as non-medical support services delivered at the home of the senior. The aim of home care is to allow seniors to remain at home safely rather than enter an assisted living community, nursing home or other types of facility care. Home care may be appropriate if a senior prefers to stay at home but needs assistance with activities of daily living.

Senior Home Care
How is Home Care different from Home Healthcare?

While home care can be used to describe both medical and non-medical care, typically "home care" refers to non-medical care such as companionship/homemaking services and personal care services, while "home healthcare" refers to the provision of skilled nursing care and other care such as speech, physical or occupational therapy. At Wiser Home Care Services we do provide nurse delegated services.

Senior Home Care
Is in-Home care the right fit for what I need?

Home Care allows an individual to remain at home safely. Living at home and/or recovering at home can have a highly positive effect. The individual and continuity of care is greatest with a live-in aide and a real bond can be formed. It is most appropriate when someone can no longer manage their activities of daily living on their own or has some form of cognitive impairment where it is not safe for them to be alone. Some families cannot handle the responsibility of being there all the time due to work, and their own family obligations or time constraints.

Senior Home Care
What if I'm not living in my house? Can I still obtain your services?

Yes. Our services can be provided at hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes, assisted living facilities or your home. Where and how you receive services is up to you.

Senior Home Care
How are your caregivers selected?

Wiser Home Care Services provides you with the quality caregivers. We hire caring, compassionate, conscientious and professional caregivers to take care of you or your loved one. Our caregivers are experienced professionals who are carefully screened, background checked, finger printed and fully insured and bonded through Wiser Home Care Services. Most of our caregivers are Certified Nursing Assistants and several are Nurse Delegated.

Senior Home Care
Can I choose my caregiver?

You are in control of who cares for you. Before services are started, your professional care coordinator visits you for a free home assessment. The information he or she gathers is designed to help select your caregiver and make an ideal match-up. The supervisor will make a personal introduction. We start with a trail period to see if it is a match. If for any reason this person doesn't meet your expectations, a simple call to the office is all that is needed to make a caregiver change. We strive to meet our clients' expectations.

Senior Home Care
What if my needs change?

At Wiser Home Care Services we are flexible to the changing needs of our clients; we do an initial assessment than do a follow up check with in the first few weeks to determine if it is the right fit. As needs change Wiser Home Care Services helps the client and family get the appropriate care while keeping the long term goals in mind.

Senior Home Care
What are clients expected to provide for a live-in caregiver?

You are expected to provide a safe environment. A private room/area with comfortable bed and space for personal belongings works best as well as space for them to store their food. Also allow for at least 6-8 hours of sleep per night. They are allowed to takes breaks during the shift, times to be arranged with care manger and client.

Senior Home Care
What services can and cannot be performed by the caregiver?

Caregivers help with all of the activities of daily living one deals with in the course of their day such as: help with dressing, bathing, ambulating, medication reminders, transferring, preparing meals, some light housekeeping, helping transport to doctor appointments and other with errands, as well as personal hygiene, etc. We can help individuals who are chronically ill, recovering from a surgery or fall or have cognitive issues. The aides cannot do anything medically where the services of a Registered Nurse would be needed. Wiser Home Care Services has three levels of care. Please call Wiser Home Care Services to go over the care that is needed and wanted.

Senior Home Care
What are some of the benefits of working with an agency vs. trying to find someone on your own?

Many might try to go it alone or use a staffing company that simply places the aide for a one-time fee and leaves it up to you to take care of everything. It's all about assurances in the end. Do you have the time to conduct interviews? Do you know how to perform background screens? How do you deal with workman's comp and tax issues? Can you handle the changes in care that may come up on your own? Wiser Home Care Services provides licensed, trained, fully screened, bonded, insured, and supervised aides. We can be on-call and will be there to help and assist throughout your entire time with us.

Senior Home Care
Does Wiser Home Care Services provide supervision? How often?

At Wiser Home Care Services all cases are monitored by a Supervisor. They help ensure the care plan is followed and needs are being met. Supervisors visit at least every 6 weeks and often call weekly. If a client has Nurse delegated duties in their care plan then the RN oversees those tasks and performs training and visits.
